“Bici in Comune”_ Funding granted to 471 Italian Municipalities

The results have been published for “Bici in Comune”, a project promoted by the Minister for Sport and Youth, in collaboration with the Department for Sport and the National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI), aimed at encouraging sustainable mobility and the use of bicycles.

More than 25% of Italian municipalities took part in the initiative, which now enters its operational phase: €12.6 million allocated by the Government will be distributed to support projects focused on cycling mobility. The funds will help improve bike paths, promote cycle tourism, and engage schools and local communities in initiatives that foster more sustainable travel.

Around 500 municipalities will be involved: 201 will receive funding directly, while another 270 will participate as partners in the selected projects.

Particular attention has been given to smaller towns: 67% of the funds will go to municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants. 17% will be allocated to towns of up to 80,000 inhabitants, 13% to cities with up to 300,000 residents, and just 3% to large urban areas.

All 20 Italian regions will have at least one funded project. Resources will be geographically distributed as follows: 45% to Northern Italy, 31% to the South and Islands, and 24% to Central Italy.

The provinces with the highest number of funded municipalities are Turin (9), Perugia (8), as well as Benevento, Bergamo, and Cuneo (6 each).
