Trams make a comeback in Italy

Trams are once again taking center stage in Italy’s urban mobility plans, with about 250 km of new lines currently under development.

This was highlighted by Legambiente during the conference “Trarns are good for cities”, held in Rome onApril 15.

In cities like Florence and Padua, the number of tram users is steadily increasing, and many Italian Cities are actively investing in expanding their networks, recognizing trams as an effective solution to the challenges of urban mobility. Bologna is planning 23.4 km Of new lines, Palermo aims for 64.2 km, Padua for 30.3 km, Florence 25 km, Bergamo 23.2 km, Milan 35.9 km, and Brescia 23.2 km, while Naples, Cagliari, and Sassari are planning 4.1 km, 6.9 km, and 2.5 km respectively.

Rome has 34.2 km of new tram routes in the pipeline, including the Termini-Vatican-Aurelio line, the line along Viale Palmiro Togliatti, the connection from Tiburtina Station to Piazzale del Verano, and the Termini-Tor Vergata route.
